Why I'm doing this
Every practice begins with someone taking a chance on you. I've read and designed for friends, for reading communities, and for the sheer pleasure of it — but Charlotte Reads/Creative is new, and new means asking an author to trust work they haven't seen proof of yet.
So I'm removing the risk entirely. The first author I collaborate with receives their choice of a full ARC read or one complete design piece, free. Not a trimmed sample, not a taster — the whole thing, done properly, to exactly the standard I'd deliver to a paying client.
What I get in return is the thing money can't buy at the start: real work with a real author, a portfolio piece I can show, and an honest testimonial I've actually earned. That feels like a fair trade to me.
This is a one-time offer for one author. Once it's claimed, this page becomes a record of how things began.
Choose one
A full ARC read
Two-pass read of your manuscript, the complete written feedback report, chapter notes, pull quotes and an honest launch-day review. Normally $120.
One graphic design piece
Your choice of a full cover, a cover reveal set, a six-card quote series, or a newsletter and website header pair. Normally from $140 to $450.
Prefer both? Ask in the form. If the timing works, I'll consider it.
Eligibility
Who this is for
- You have a complete manuscript, or a finished book needing design work.
- You're publishing independently or with a small press.
- You can share your work at least four weeks before your release date.
- You're happy for the finished piece to appear in my portfolio, credited to you.
- You'll give me a short, honest testimonial afterwards — glowing or not.
Fiction of any genre is welcome. If you're writing non-fiction, still ask — I'll tell you honestly whether I'm a useful reader for it.
How it works
Five straightforward steps
Step 1
Send the form below with a little about your book.
Step 2
I reply within three days — honestly, including if I don't think I'm the right fit.
Step 3
We agree the scope and the dates in writing, so expectations are shared.
Step 4
The work happens on the same timeline and to the same standard as any paid project.
Step 5
You receive the files, and afterwards a short testimonial if you're happy to give one.
